Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you calculate prices?
We are a trade mill. All our products are manufactured in house.

We have built in a tailor made pricing system, produced by a specialist programmer. The system has been built over the past seven years with ability to calculate the variables involved, calculating short and long runs and allowing for in stock items to be worked out from a long run price.

Should you be ordering moulding that is not stocked and you want a small quantity, the price would include setting up a machine to run. If it is one of our mouldings we stock (in our top 100 best sellers) we would allow for it to be put into stock, so you would only be charged for the short run that you are ordering. Also the price reduces the cost per metre on the quantity of a long run.

For all prices, the main bulk of it comes from the initial setting up, which is a detailed process that can take a few hours, once we are set up, we can run from 1m to 1000m and the longer the run, the more cost effective it becomes for you. In simple terms, the higher the quantity that's ordered, the price per metre reduces.
  • Can you send out samples?
All samples must be ordered through our website, samples are available of our top 300 bestselling mouldings. If it does not show available as a sample, then you can download a PDF or CAD file to see the full-size profile.
There is a small charge for samples sent out this is for packaging and carriage as the samples themselves are on free.
  • What type of timber do you supply the mouldings in?
We stock mouldings in best grade Southern Yellow Pine, Tulip, Sapele and American white Oak. mouldings available in other timbers, these would need to be machine to order, so there is a minimum order. Walnut, European oak, beech, Ash, Accoya, Iroko and maple.
  • Can I get less than the minimum order quantity it states on the website if the profile is in stock?
If you are ordering more than one moulding type, the first item needs to be the minimum order, after then you can order one length of a stock moulding. Otherwise they would need to be the minimum as shown.
  • Can I get less than the minimum order quantity it states on the website if the profile is machined in house?
We have trialled sending short quantities to customers before and for many reasons it didn’t work out.

We have one of the largest ranges of mouldings in the UK which has many benefits, if this profile is what you're after, you are saving on bespoke tooling costs.

We target trade mainly. This profile will need to be machined in house, there is a premium for short quantities due to the extensive procedures that goes into machining.

    1. Locate the tooling from our library and check the blades are sharp.

    2. Set the tooling in the cutting block and measure for setting.

    3. Breakdown and re-set on one of our 6 head moulding machines.

    4. Run from 1 - 3 test pieces and tweak the manual settings until the profile is correct.

    5. Pull out the metres required from our timber store the correct thickness timber generally by fork lift.

    6. Pass the timber through the moulder and use a final back up length of timber to ensure the last length of your order will not be spoiled.

We are in a niche sector with a busy team growing rapidly. We have highly skilled trained machinists as well as trained sales staff. We have had to streamline a lot of the procedures in house to allow for our growing business.

Minimum orders was one of those. We have carefully worked these out so that they are cost effective for you and for us.
  • What lengths can I order?
Stock items you can choose from the drop down box for lengths available. Machined to order generally will be between 2.4 and 3.6.
  • I want to order architrave, can you supply to size of lengths?
Please provide your cutting list and allow on your order approx 15% wastage on you cutting list.
  • Do you provide your timber pre-primed?
We do not provide a priming service, we send out our mouldings clean and ready for your finish.
  • What is your turnaround time?
Delivery when ordering from stock 2-5 working days and machine to order 6-9 working days.
  • How are the mouldings delivered?
We offer a fast local service with our vans, or we send on a courier service that is able to take up to 3.6m lengths. All mouldings are packed in a protective wrapping. We can deliver all around the UK.
  • Can you make your online profiles smaller or larger than the specified size on the website?
The profile would stay the same. We can alter the height of the skirtings. Some alterations can be made to other mouldings. Please send her a bespoke enquiry.
  • Do have any stockists around the country?
    WRP are the only stockists.
  • Do lengths vary between the different timber types?
Yes lengths will vary between different types of timber. We will confirm lengths on order.
  • Is your bespoke service a longer lead time than your online profiles?
This depends on the profile/s and the quantity metre run. We aim to keep the lead time at efficient 6-9 working days from order. We will confirm lead time on enquiry.
  • How do I measure our existing moulding so I can get it matched through your bespoke service?
The best way to be sure is to take off a small piece and send it to us in the post. Even if it is in a few pieces we can get a very close match.

If you cannot remove an existing piece of moulding then you will need to make a profile drawing of it with accurate measurements labelled on the drawing. Fill in our bespoke enquiry form.
  • Do you make the mouldings or are they imported?
All mouldings are machined at the factory in Essex.
We do not import any of the mouldings.
  • If we are plastering a wall, can we put mouldings on when it’s not a dry atmosphere?
It is not recommended. When you have wet walls or a damp atmosphere there is a high chance of the timber bowing, cupping or even splitting because it will absorb moisture. Then at a later date when the heating is switched on and the timer dries out, it can cause problems. It is always best to prime or seal both sides of the timber before fixing.
  • Can the mouldings be made from MDF?
We pride ourselves in our solid natural timber and of such a superb finish. We do make a few mouldings from MDF so they are just very simple shapes as the finish of the profile would need to be sanded and is not as hard wearing.
  • The rosette size that you recommended is 5mm larger than the architrave width. Is there any reason that you suggest this protruding?
The reason we advise about 5mm bigger on width and thickness is because over time it will shrink. If you leave the width the same size, it will cause distortion and one side being smaller than the architrave.
  • We are thinking about having a two part skirting made, where would the joint be? My client is worried the hoover will open up a joint if low down. Looking how your other skirting are made it looks like the joint is at the very top near the profile, is that correct?
This is a two-part moulding, which means there is more stability as they are grooved, they are not glued when fitted to allow movement. It will also be towards the top of the moulding, so it won't be low down.An example drawing so you can see what we would do.
  • My order arrived safely, except that one of the 12 lengths is warped. The deflection in the middle is about 20mm. The other lengths are reasonably true although one or two others have some "deviations"
Please note that solid timber is a natural material and every measure is taken to send out the best quality we can. All of our mouldings are checked in the machining process and before they are wrapped, slight distortion is acceptable.

When fitted it can be flexed to be straight, this is general practice in the trade. It is not possible to guarantee perfectly straight lengths.
  • Why do you put grooves in the back of your skirtings?
Relief grooves are machined into the back of some larger mouldings, this reduces cupping and distortion. Also this helps the fitters to fix snug to the wall after glueing.
  • Can your Mouldings be used externally.
Yes, when using Southern Yellow Pine, they can be used externally. It is always advised that you treat the timber with a preservative application, prime it, then paint.

Alternatively, we can price to machine our mouldings in a hardwood such as Sapele and American White Oak. Also in Accoya.
Accoya has become more popular for an external timber as it has been treated in a way that gives you more durability. The treatment stops movement, so after it has been painted we have found that there is no cracking or distortion so the lasting is superb. At an extra cost we believe it is fully worth investing in this timber.
  • Do you sell your mouldings over the counter at your workshop?
Our Showroom is our website you can view all our profiles online and order samples through the website. After you have placed your order we will get it to you safe and sound, we currently offer a delivery only service.
  • I have sent a sample of an existing moulding to be matched and would like the sample returned to me is this something you can do?
If you would like your sample sent back to you, prepaid postage must be supplied with your sample in order for us to return it to you.
  • Are the moulding section sizes given the finished sizes.
Yes the drawings on the web site are all finished sizes.
  • You recommend having an Architrave thicker than the skirting, is there a standard amount thicker you would suggest?
Yes, we recommend this as it is a very good detail and can make fitting easier. We would say allow 4mm between the thickness of the skirting and the architrave.
  • Can you provide samples for profiles outside of your top 300 best sellers?
We are a small and busy team it would not be practical for us to set up the machines to run a sample of a moulding outside of our large range of best sellers, the number of profiles on our website are growing each time we produce a bespoke. It is hours of work just to produce samples.

Here is the procedures below to run a moulding:

We understand that you may need a better idea of the size and shape of the profile. If the moulding you are looking for is not available as a sample, you can either download a PDF of the drawing (please print on A4 and actual size) or if you have access to AutoCAD, you can download our full library of profiles.

  • What length are the samples you send?
Samples are 200mm in length and are in Southern Yellow Pine.
  • Will you contact me with a proposed delivery time prior to delivering my order?
We send all of our deliveries via express national courier, and you will receive a notification with a tracking number once it has left us so that you can see which day it's out for delivery on.

Once you see that it's out for delivery it can be delivered anytime between 8am and 6pm. They do not issue time slots so we would be unable to give you a specific delivery time. Also the drivers are not issued with work phones so if the driver chooses to call you it would be using their own personal mobile phone so we cannot guarantee that they will do so.

Delivery will take between 1-3 working days. 8 times out of 10 it will arrive the next working day after dispatch but we ask you to allow up to 3 days just in case due to the long lengths we send.

The driver will require a signature, but if you can't be in they will also accept a signed note with instructions on where to leave the packs safely as proof of delivery.

Please ensure that this is a safe place as neither us nor the delivery company can be liable once the packs are left.
  • Why am I paying VAT on delivery charge?
We send all of our deliveries via express national courier. They charge us by weight and distance and send us a driver daily for collection of our mouldings and distribute them out from the hub to the local depots. All non-Post Office delivery charges include standard rate VAT.

  • Can i collect for 10 meters
At the present time we have a large range of products, aimed at the trade, the reason trade customers order large quantities hundreds and also thousands of metres on an order, as we have built our structure around our trade customers. All orders are received online and delivered out through our specialist courier as we send most products out in long lengths. We have busy staff dealing with the deliveries and unfortunately we cannot cater for collections as we have no facilities to deal with this.
On our website we offer a minimum order of one product and then you can order one length of another mouldings that is in stock. All of our products are manually hand packed as all orders are of different quantities.
  • What moisture content is the timber when you machine it? I am considering order a quantity of timber but was worried about cupping.
Our timber mouldings for intended for internal use though can be used externally as well, the moisture content is generally between 10 to 13%. Cupping generally occurs in wide and thinner type material as you can see on our website the wider mouldings are generally into parts. This is to reduce the risk of cupping . We also with some of the profiles put relief grooves in that reduces the stress on one side.
  • Hi If I send you a picture can you let me know if you have a mould for it pls. Kay
Please fill out our bespoke enquiry form here: https://www.wrp-timber-mouldings.co.uk/contact/bespoke-enquiry

  • Hello, I'm trying to replace around 1m of fine beading on an old cabinet. It's close to Bead B748. I know you don't supply small lengths, could you tell me if any retailers have bought this so I can buy from them? Many thanks, Ady
We don't have any stockists, we sell direct from our workshop to customers.
  • hello, we would need 10 pieces of ref 805s at 2.15 length. would you be the price per item?
    Hi,
As this moulding is currently in stock, we would only be able to sell the lengths available from stock. As you can see on our website we do not have 2.1m available in Southern Yellow Pine. However, we do have 2.1m in Tulip.

The next size of length up from 2.1m that we could have would be 2.4m lengths. We do not have 2.15m. Tulip would be the most flexible option for you currently in terms of lengths, as we currently only have 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m and 3.4m available in Southern Yellow Pine. We would not machine up any more until the stock has depleted.
  • Hello. Just wondering with the bolection moulding if a smaller rebate can be cut into them.

  • i need three sets of architrive what lengths should i order
If the architrave is in stock you can choose from lengths in the panel. If they are not in stock and we need to machine them generally we can supply in 2.4m. Windows or double doors could be in 3.6 meter Lengths. If there are specific Lengths you're after then you can call us to see what we can offer.
  • would you recommend sanding and priming your southern yellow pine before painting ?
I would suggest that you look into the paint suppliers recommendation. As this does depend on what type of paint you will be using on the Timber. If it's used for internal it's not necessary to prime. The mouldings we send out just need a light sand down if any.
  • Where r u based.

  • Hi, we are struggling to Match a piece of architrave. I was wondering if I sent you a picture if you’d be able to tell me if you have a match please?
We fully understand it can be time-consuming to search through the website and all of the mouldings. What we have done is we have sectioned the profiles into different groups, you can also identify shape names, at the top of the page you can also organise the mouldings into width, after you found the profile that you think is approximately correct you might have a size drop-down, if there is multiples of that moulding. Then when you feel you have found the correct moulding you can download the PDF and print it off full-size, if you are able to work with CAD drawings you can also download this.
We are limited in the Office to deal with orders and deliveries only, if you cannot find the moulding you are looking for then there is an option for requesting a price as a bespoke.

    bespoke

Generally we say to make a bespoke moulding only becomes cost effective when we are running a substantial quantity, in excess of 100 m after that the price per metre is reduced constantly with the higher quantity, due to the tooling and machine set up involved. If your mouldings must match because you are in a conservation area, listed or protected by English heritage, we can price these.

The cost of a moulding under 10m could generally go over £400/£800 being £40/£80 per metre. At the 200 meter run bespoke this could reduced to £6/£9 per metre.
  • Do you offer guaranteed next day deliveries?
Because of the lengths we send we are unable to offer a next day delivery. All of our deliveries are sent on an express, they are between 2 to 5 working days at the moment, this varies depending how busy the courier company is.

  • I need a small quantity of a moulding you have not got in stock you're showing its machined to order and seems expensive.
As you are ordering a small meterage, the cost reflects the setting up of the machines. There are several manual procedures and is very time-consuming in setting a machine also running test pieces measuring and resetting tweaking the machines. Once this is done we can run 10 m in a similar time to 150 m machines run at a rate of 10m to 30m per minute.
What we done is to hold stock of 150 different profiles running higher quantities and this reduces the price for a small amount. We suggest for small quantities that you try and search on our website our in stock moulding. Our mouldings are set out in different categories and also in shape forms that you can search for through our website.
  • How do I find my previous orders?
