Frequently Asked Questions

  • How do you calculate prices?
We are a trade mill. All our products are manufactured in house.

We have built in a tailor made pricing system, produced by a specialist programmer. The system has been built over the past seven years with ability to calculate the variables involved, calculating short and long runs and allowing for in stock items to be worked out from a long run price.

Should you be ordering moulding that is not stocked and you want a small quantity, the price would include setting up a machine to run. If it is one of our mouldings we stock (in our top 100 best sellers) we would allow for it to be put into stock, so you would only be charged for the short run that you are ordering. Also the price reduces the cost per metre on the quantity of a long run.

For all prices, the main bulk of it comes from the initial setting up, which is a detailed process that can take a few hours, once we are set up, we can run from 1m to 1000m and the longer the run, the more cost effective it becomes for you. In simple terms, the higher the quantity that's ordered, the price per metre reduces.
  • Can you send out samples?
Yes. You can request samples by clicking the blue ‘Order a sample’ button which you can find on each profile page for all products that are sold by the metre.

Samples are normally dispatched within one or two working days and are sent by TNT.
  • Are samples available for all your profiles on the website?
We have over 800 Moulding profiles available and are in the process of adding more.

We offer samples of our 300 best sellers and for profiles outside of that, there is an AutoCAD file available of all our Mouldings.
  • What type of timber do you supply the mouldings in?
We supply all mouldings in best grade Southern Yellow Pine. We can produce all mouldings in several other timbers ranging from American White Oak to Sapele to Tulip.
  • Can I get less than the minimum order quantity it states on the website if the profile is in stock?
We have trialled sending short quantities to customers before and for many reasons it didn’t work out.

We have one of the largest ranges of mouldings in the UK which has many benefits, if this profile is what you're after, you are saving on bespoke tooling costs.

We target trade mainly. If the moulding is in stock and you are willing to pay a premium, we can do this.

We are a in niche sector with a busy team growing rapidly. We have highly skilled trained machinists as well as trained sales staff. We have had to streamline a lot of the procedures in house to allow for our growing business.

Minimum orders was one of those. We have carefully worked these out so that they are cost effective for you and for us.
  • Why are minimum orders different in different timbers?
We use Southern Yellow Pine as our main timber and our stock mouldings will largely be available in this. It is an excellent timber, virtually free of knots and is great for painting, staining and polishing.

For stock mouldings, the minimum order is reduced as we don't have to set up a machine to run them, we have a dedicated stock area and staff who are highly trained to look after the stock orders and records.

For unusual timbers and mouldings that are outside of our top 100 best sellers are machined to order. There is more work that goes into this and the minimum orders have been worked out carefully to allow for this.
  • Can I get less than the minimum order quantity it states on the website if the profile is machined in house?
We have trialled sending short quantities to customers before and for many reasons it didn’t work out.

We have one of the largest ranges of mouldings in the UK which has many benefits, if this profile is what you're after, you are saving on bespoke tooling costs.

We target trade mainly. This profile will need to be machined in house, there is a premium for short quantities due to the extensive procedures that goes into machining.

    1. Locate the tooling from our library and check the blades are sharp.

    2. Set the tooling in the cutting block and measure for setting.

    3. Breakdown and re-set on one of our 6 head moulding machines.

    4. Run from 1 - 3 test pieces and tweak the manual settings until the profile is correct.

    5. Pull out the metres required from our timber store the correct thickness timber generally by fork lift.

    6. Pass the timber through the moulder and use a final back up length of timber to ensure the last length of your order will not be spoiled.

We are in a niche sector with a busy team growing rapidly. We have highly skilled trained machinists as well as trained sales staff. We have had to streamline a lot of the procedures in house to allow for our growing business.

Minimum orders was one of those. We have carefully worked these out so that they are cost effective for you and for us.
  • What lengths can I order?
We endeavour to provide longer lengths for your skirting, dado rails and picture rails. We do not guarantee exact sizes, but we aim to deliver your sizes as close as possible.

Available sizes are 2.4m or 3.6m but orders over 100m we can also offer 2.1m & 3m In Southern Yellow Pine. In hardwoods, we will confirm the available lengths on order.

When ordering architraves please specify lengths of either side or the head, this helps us to select the best timber for the job. We will work out sizes for you so you do not end up with lots of off-cuts. Allow for 15% wastage on ordering.
  • I want to order architrave, can you supply to size of lengths?
Please provide your cutting list and allow on your order approx 15% wastage on you cutting list.
  • Do you provide your timber pre-primed?
We do not provide a priming service, however we send out our mouldings clean and ready for your finish.
  • What is your turnaround time?
We generally have a very efficient turnaround time for dispatch of approx. 6-7 working days.
  • How are the mouldings delivered?
We offer a fast local service with our vans, or we send on a courier service that is able to take up to 3.6m lengths. All mouldings are packed in a protective wrapping. We can deliver all around the UK.
  • Can you make your online profiles smaller or larger than the specified size on the website?
Yes we can, send us your enquiry and we can get back to you with a quote.
  • Do you stock or have any stockists around the country?
We stock our top 100 mouldings, and you can see which profiles are in stock on our website. You can always give our team a call to confirm. We do not supply to stockists; all mouldings are machined and sold from our factory in Essex.
  • Do lengths vary between the different timber types?
Yes lengths will vary between different types of timber. We will confirm lengths on order.
  • Can you supply any off-cuts of your mouldings?
We do not it is a rarity that we have any off cuts left in the workshop.
  • Is your bespoke service a longer lead time than your online profiles?
This depends on the profile/s and the quantity metre run. We aim to keep the lead time at efficient 6-7 working days from order. We will confirm lead time on enquiry.
  • How do I measure our existing moulding so I can get it matched through your bespoke service?
The best way to be sure is to take off a small piece and send it to us in the post. Even if it is in a few pieces we can get a very close match.

If you cannot remove an existing piece of moulding then you will need to make a profile drawing of it with accurate measurements labelled on the drawing. Also we need the quantity metre run you require.
  • Do you make the mouldings or are they imported?
All mouldings are machined here at the factory in Essex.
We do not import any of the mouldings.
  • If we are plastering a wall, can we put mouldings on when it’s not a dry atmosphere?
It is not recommended. When you have wet walls or a damp atmosphere there is a high chance of the timber bowing, cupping or even splitting because it will absorb moisture. Then at a later date when the heating is switched on and the timer dries out, it can cause problems. It is always best to prime or seal both sides of the timber before fixing.
  • Can the mouldings be made from MDF?
Yes we can supply mouldings in MDF as required. They will be produced as a special run. MDF mouldings are generally used for buildings with under-floor heating as it's more stable. We use moisture-resistant MDF.

Please contact us with any enquiries about MDF moudlings.
  • The rosette size that you recommended is 5mm larger than the architrave width. Is there any reason that you suggest this protruding?
The reason we advise about 5mm bigger on width and thickness is because over time it will shrink. If you leave the width the same size, it will cause distortion and one side being smaller than the architrave.
  • We are thinking about having a two part skirting made, where would the joint be? My client is worried the hoover will open up a joint if low down. Looking how your other skirting are made it looks like the joint is at the very top near the profile, is that correct?
This is a two-part moulding, which means there is more stability as they are grooved, they are not glued when fitted to allow movement. It will also be towards the top of the moulding, so it won't be low down.An example drawing so you can see what we would do.
  • My order arrived safely, except that one of the 12 lengths is warped. The deflection in the middle is about 20mm. The other lengths are reasonably true although one or two others have some "deviations"
Please note that solid timber is a natural material and every measure is taken to send out the best quality we can. All of our mouldings are checked in the machining process and before they are wrapped, slight distortion is acceptable.

When fitted it can be flexed to be straight, this is general practice in the trade. It is not possible to guarantee perfectly straight lengths.
  • If I want to polish so the timber is showing, what timber should I use?
The beauty of Timber is its natural look. Using simplistic mouldings rather than intricate details is best. For example, walnut is a beautiful timber to use if you are polishing them. The wood is generally straight-grained, but sometimes with wavy or curly grain that produces an attractive and decorative figure.
  • Do you stock your standard Skirting on the website?
We stock Skirting less than 150mm high. If they are higher than that we tend to mill them to order, which is done in our machine shop and generally takes a few days. The reason for this is because freshly machined ensures the quality and flatness in the boards, so reducing the risk of cupping or warping.

Another way we help them not distort is putting relief grooves in the back. The photo on the left is WRP Southern Yellow pine with relief grooves in back, which will also assist if you are gluing to the wall, and the photo on the right is an old sample from a customer that has cupped. Cupping can also be caused by a damp environment such as recently plastered walls, as water is in the air and will be picked up by the timber. Please ensure when you receive the timber it is kept in a dry place.
  • Can your Mouldings be used externally (if covered by a lead flashing) ?
Yes, when using Southern Yellow Pine, they can be used externally. It is always advised that you treat the timber with a preservative application, prime it, then paint them.

Alternatively, we can price to machine our mouldings in a hardwood such as Sapele and American White Oak. Also in Accoya. Accoya has become more popular for an external timber as it has been treated in a way that gives you more durability. The treatment also means that it is indigestible to a number of insects and doesn't need to have a preservative application when cut or planed.

With any timber that is being placed externally, if it is possible, keep them out of direct elements as this will help to prolong the life of them.

Please send us an email at sales@wrpmouldings.co.uk or call to talk to us on 01799 543 887.
  • Can you supply 1metre strips of hardwood 5mm wide by 2 or 3mm thick I would need about 10 metres
The minimum thickness we can machine is 5mm. Our recommendation is to search for construction veneer as this generally comes to 3 mm thick.
  • Do you sell your mouldings over the counter at Newport?
Our Showroom and Trade Counter is our website you can view all our profiles online and order samples through the website. After you have placed your order we will get it to you safe and sound, we currently offer a fast and reliable delivery only service.
  • I have sent a sample of an existing moulding to be matched and would like the sample returned to me is this something you can do?
If you would like your sample sent back to you, prepaid postage must be supplied with your sample in order for us to return it to you.
  • Are the moulding section sizes given the finished sizes.
Yes the drawings on the web site are all finished sizes.
  • You recommend having an Architrave thicker than the skirting, is there a standard amount thicker you would suggest?
Yes, we recommend this as it is a very good detail and can make fitting easier. We would say allow 4mm between the thickness of the skirting and the architrave.
  • Can you provide samples for profiles outside of your top 300 best sellers?
We are a small and busy team it would not be practical for us to set up the machines to run a sample of a moulding outside of our large range of best sellers, the number of profiles on our website are growing each time we produce a bespoke. It is hours of work just to produce samples.

Here is the procedures below to run a moulding:

We understand that you may need a better idea of the size and shape of the profile. If the moulding you are looking for is not available as a sample, you can either download a PDF of the drawing (please print on A4 and actual size) or if you have access to AutoCAD, you can download our full library of profiles.
  • Can I drop off my sample to you?
Our trade counter and showroom is our website. Our online site cover’s from John O’ Groats to Land’s End, as we are a small and busy team we have developed a system that enables us to provide the same accurate and quality service to all of our customers across this range. In order for us to keep up with our main focus; providing a quality product with a quick turnaround time, we have taken a step to streamline the efficiency of the company. Due to this we no longer have the facilities for collections or to take drop-offs of samples.

  • Can I order 2m of d1236
    Hi There,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

The minimum order for D1236 is 21m. We are a trade mill and generally run orders of 100's of meters or more. We have had to streamline a lot of the procedures in house to allow for our growing business. Minimum orders was one of those. We have carefully worked these out so that they are cost effective for you and for us.This profile will need to be machined to order, in order for us to set up the machines we would require a minimum of 21m to be run.
  • What length are the samples you send? (D606) Many thanks, Alice
    Hi Alice,
The samples are 200-220mm in length and are in Southern Yellow Pine.
    Kind regards,
    The WRP Team.
  • Will you contact me with a proposed delivery time prior to delivering my order?
We send all of our deliveries via express national courier, and you will receive a notification with a tracking number once it has left us so that you can see which day it's out for delivery on.

Once you see that it's out for delivery it can be delivered anytime between 8am and 6pm. They do not issue time slots so we would be unable to give you a specific delivery time. Also the drivers are not issued with work phones so if the driver chooses to call you it would be using their own personal mobile phone so we cannot guarantee that they will do so.

Delivery will take between 1-3 working days. 8 times out of 10 it will arrive the next working day after dispatch but we ask you to allow up to 3 days just in case due to the long lengths we send.

The driver will require a signature, but if you can't be in they will also accept a signed note with instructions on where to leave the packs safely as proof of delivery.

Please ensure that this is a safe place as neither us nor the delivery company can be liable once the packs are left.
  • Why am I paying VAT on delivery charge?
We send all of our deliveries via express national courier. They charge us by weight and distance and send us a driver daily for collection of our mouldings and distribute them out from the hub to the local depots. All non-Post Office delivery charges include standard rate VAT.
  • I have to affix a dado rail on a flat wall to follow the rise of a staircase skirting which is approx a 1.5 metre radius - how would you advise curving your D606 moulding, it will be painted after fixing
Hi thank you for your question, there are a few ways of curving timber, this is a more complicated area than most people think. It really is a specialist field. Basically if you are a tradesperson and have the correct information we are happy to make the curves for you. We have a form that needs to be filled in. Attached with this. Making a curved moulding is sometimes 10 times the price of running straight.
  • can you send out a catologe
    Hi Warren,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We are an online based site, and as such our trade counter, showroom and brochure are our website. You can see all the products we provide on the website.

To get a better idea of the size and shape of our profiles, you can order samples though our website. We stock samples of our top 300 best sellers. For items outside of the top 300 best sellers you can download our CAD drawings if you have access to autoCAD or download and print off our PDF drawings actual size for a 1:1 drawing of the profile. This can be done by clicking on the buttons below the description on the product pages.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any further questions.
  • can i collect for 10 meters
    Hi there,

    Thank you for your enquiry.

We are an online company only, we do not have a trade counter or showroom. We machine everything in house and deliver out to customers using an express national company.

Each of our mouldings has a minimum order quantity listed against it on each product page. Some of these may be below 10m, but the minimum order quantity must always be reached and we will deliver it out to you ASAP.

Delivery takes 1-3 working days after dispatch and 8 times out of 10 will often arrive the next working day after dispatch. Once it has left us you will receive a notification with a tracking number and a website to track it on so that you can see which day it's out for delivery to you.

I hope this helps, let me know if you need any further information.
  • What moisture content is the timber when you machine it? I am considering order a quantity of timber but was worried about cupping.
Our timber mouldings for intended for internal use though can be used externally as well, the moisture content is generally between 10 to 13%. Cupping generally occurs in wide and thinner type material as you can see on our website the wider mouldings are generally into parts. This is to reduce the risk of cupping . We also with some of the profiles put relief grooves in that reduces the stress on one side.
  • Hi If I send you a picture can you let me know if you have a mould for it pls. Kay
Please fill out our bespoke enquiry form here: https://www.wrp-timber-mouldings.co.uk/contact/bespoke-enquiry
If you attach an end section photo or sketch of the profile shape and fill out all the fields on the form it asks for then we will be able to see whether we have something similar or if we would make it bespoke and price accordingly for you.
  • Can you supply left hand cornices if I give the radius?
We can look into curved mouldings, but we will need to email you a curve enquiry form which you will need to fill out completely and send back to us.
  • Hello, I'm trying to replace around 1m of fine beading on an old cabinet. It's close to Bead B748. I know you don't supply small lengths, could you tell me if any retailers have bought this so I can buy from them? Many thanks, Ady
We don't have any stockists, we sell direct from our workshop to customers.
  • hello, we would need 10 pieces of ref 805s at 2.15 length. would you be the price per item?
    Hi,
As this moulding is currently in stock, we would only be able to sell the lengths available from stock. As you can see on our website we do not have 2.1m available in Southern Yellow Pine. However, we do have 2.1m in Tulip.

The next size of length up from 2.1m that we could have would be 2.4m lengths. We do not have 2.15m. Tulip would be the most flexible option for you currently in terms of lengths, as we currently only have 1m, 1.2m, 1.5m and 3.4m available in Southern Yellow Pine. We would not machine up any more until the stock has depleted.
  • Hello. Is there any way of purchasing moulding that isnt 18 metre minimum. I only need enough to do 6 panels either side of a door. Many thanks Iain
If the moulding is in stock then you can order below the minimum order quantity if you are ordering above the minimum of something else at the same time. You can email over what you're after exactly and we can have a look into it properly for you if you'd like.

Otherwise, we must stick to the minimum order quantities as we are a trade mill with our entire process set up for larger quantities.

We have trialled sending short quantities to customers before and for many reasons it didn’t work out.

We have one of the largest ranges of mouldings in the UK which has many benefits, if this profile is what you're after, you are saving on bespoke tooling costs.

If the profile needs to be machined in house, there is a premium for short quantities due to the extensive procedures that goes into machining.

I trust this is understandable and we can supply you with our high quality mouldings.
  • B715 quadrant - can this have the corner removed like B658 for example.
Yes we can do that, there would be a machine set up cost involved. If you send over an enquiry on our site stating the sizes that you require the corner to be removed. How many metres you are after, timber. We will then send you a price.
  • Hi I have a bespoke trim i need made and i would like a price, how do i send cross section?
Please fill out our bespoke enquiry form here: https://www.wrp-timber-mouldings.co.uk/contact/bespoke-enquiry
To this you can attach an end section photo or sketch of your profile shape.

If you would like to post in a physical sample then please email us at sales@wrpmouldings.co.uk and we will provide you with an address to send the sample to.
  • Hi, I am looking for some skirting that is cut to length. I can’t see specified anywhere whether the skirting comes cut at 45 degree angles. How is this specified on the order.
Thanks for your question, it's not very practical for any company to cut the mitres in the workshop. Generally walls can be out of square and they can also be out of true in their height so carpenters will cut the mouldings we produce in situ.
  • Hello. Just wondering with the bolection moulding if a smaller rebate can be cut into them.
Yes we can, this of course would not come from our stock mouldings so it would need to be machined to order. Generally we would suggest a minimum order of 30 m but the higher the quantity the more economical the price would be.
  • Is it possible to order 2m of b513? it says minimum order 40m on your website which is far to much for the job at hand, we are a specialist furniture restorers and we unable to get the profile from our normal suppliers
Hi thank you for the question, the moulding you are looking at is in our specials on offer, we aim to trade and have previously trialled small quantities which was unsuccessful. So unfortunately the minimum order that is shown on our website is fixed.
  • Can I place an order over the phone.
Yes you can, between the times of 8 am and 5.15pm
  • i need three sets of architrive what lengths should i order
If the architrave is in stock you can choose from lengths in the panel. If they are not in stock and we need to machine them generally we can supply in 2.4m. Windows or double doors could be in 3.6 meter Lengths. If there are specific Lengths you're after then you can call us to see what we can offer.
  • would you recommend sanding and priming your southern yellow pine before painting ?
I would suggest that you look into the paint suppliers recommendation. As this does depend on what type of paint you will be using on the Timber. If it's used for internal it's not necessary to prime. The mouldings we send out just need a light sand down if any.
  • Where r u based.
We are an online presence, we have no trade counter or collection. As our customer base is across the whole of the UK. Our factory and offices are based in Essex. Thank you.
  • I'm looking to order 38 lengths of Ovolo window beading in pine, but as I was about to pay I noticed it said 2.1m lengths. Is this correct and are 2.4m lengths not available?
The lengths we show are accurate, you can also check this with the total metres. It calculate the exact amount. When we run low on the meterage in stock we will make new stock and could be longer lengths available.
  • Do u sell torus skirting, or is it only mouldings and architraves? Thanks
Hi thank you for your question, you can filter the mouldings from the homepage to popular search names, Torus is one of them. Hover over profiles and the drop-down list will show, click on the one you wish to see.
  • Where can I find shipping prices?
Enter the quantity you are wanting of each product. Go to the basket enter your address and this will give you a cost for delivery. Only to UK mainland.
  • Do you deliver to the Isle of Wight?
Yes we do, you can order through our website.
  • I have a moulding started out as pigs ear handrail now with edge cut off to make second flat side 63mm x65mm can post a piece to you have got the equipment to copy this we may need to make a cutter many thanks Neil
Have you looked at H692 in our website as this is a pigs ear. If you are wanting a bespoke moulding made it is only cost-effective for such a profile with 50 m plus. We can do less though the price would be quite high. Please fill in a bespoke enquiry https://www.wrp-timber-mouldings.co.uk/contact/bespoke-enquiry
and we will reply back with a estimate.
  • next day delivery?
Our deliveries once dispatched are 2 to 4 working days.
  • Can you cut to size and do mitre joints
All of our mouldings are left in lengths for customers to cut. We do not offer a pre-cutting to size or mitring.
  • I am looking for a picture rail that can go round a couple of curved corners. Are there any of products available for this?
These would only be available as a bespoke item, we would make them as a special. If you send through a bespoke enquiry form we will then contact you with what details we will be after, we need radius and photos basically that will help us understand which way the curve is.
  • DO YOU DO CREDIT ACCOUNTS
We are an online site and have built over the years a large amount of customers without offering credit account. We do realise this is a bold move on our part, as it's a way to perform the most cost effective production method, giving a guaranteed no bad debts and ultimately producing high quality Mouldings for the lowest price.
