Basswood

Basswood, also known as Tilia or Lime, is a soft, light-colored hardwood known for its fine, even grain and smooth texture. It is relatively soft for a hardwood, making it exceptionally easy to machine and sand, which is a key advantage for intricate mouldings. Because of its uniform texture, it takes finishes—paints, stains, or lacquers—very well, ensuring a smooth, polished appearance. It is widely used in high-quality architectural mouldings, including architraves, skirtings, cornices, and other decorative profiles, where a smooth finish and ease of detailing are essential. Additionally, due to its stability, basswood is also frequently used for painted or stained curved mouldings, as it holds shape well.
